The Board of Directors consists of parents and community members who volunteer their time to serve the school, the parents and children for 3-year terms.

Meet the Candidates
 Woodrow Wilson Academy Parents,

There will be a “Get to Know the Candidates” night on Tuesday, April 29th at 7:00 p.m. in the Library.  This is a chance for you to learn about the candidates that are running for the three open positions on the WWA Board of Directors.  The format will allow each candidate to introduce themselves, followed by a short question and answer period.   I anticipate the meeting going for approximately 90-120 minutes.

There are a total of 7 candidates  running for the three open positions on the board.

The elections themselves will be held during a special annual meeting held before the regular Board of Directors meeting onMay 13th.  An opportunity will be provided to vote in absentia during the week prior to this meeting (the week of May 5th).  Look for more information about the voting process shortly.

All WWA families are encouraged to attend at least on BOD meeting per school year.

Annual Board Member Elections

Dear WWA Families:

On May 13, 2014, the Board of Directors will be holding our annual board member elections for 3 seats expiring June 2014. The board

members whose terms are expiring are Amy Benisch, Patrick Earhart, and Veronica Brunk. All three candidates are eligible to run for another term. All returning board members are parents of students at the school so we will also accept nominations for up to one community member position

that will expire in June 2017.

Charter schools like WWA are unique in that they are “parent governed” schools. This is done through the election of board members. The purpose of the board as elected representatives is to direct, not manage, the school. Board members are a policy setting group, and through policy, direct administration within the Mission and Vision Statements of Woodrow Wilson Academy.

The qualifications of a candidate include:

Read Professor E.D. Hirsch's books "Cultural Literacy" and "The Schools We Need and Why We Don't Have Them" and agree with the

principle that our society has a foundation of knowledge upon which subsequent learning is built.

* Be familiar with the Core Knowledge Scope and Sequence.

* Understand the curriculum that has been approved by the board.

* Be in agreement with the educational philosophy, discipline policy and administrative structure of WWA.

* All directors should attend one PTO meeting a year to show support and encouragement for that vital aspect of our school. Directors

will not serve on the PTO Executive Committee. Directors may chair and/or serve on other committees of the PTO.

* Prior board experience is helpful but not required. Placing a high value on professionalism and the success of the school is

mandatory. Motivation for serving on the board shall be to facilitate the educational success of students.

* Please be familiar with the Board of Director’s web page on the school’s website http://www.wwacademy.org

Those seeking to be elected or reelected to the board shall submit a letter of interest and an abbreviated resume by April 1, 2014. Candidate letters will be accepted in either school office or via email at adrian.c.clarke@gmail.com. An evening for Meet the Candidates will be scheduled in late April and elections will be held at the annual meeting on May 13, 2014 as well as the week leading up to the meeting for absentee ballots.

BOD Meeting 04/08/2014

At the January WWA Board of Director's meeting, the BOD voted unanimously to retain Mr Matlick for the 2014/2015 school year. Each year the BOD has the responsibility of evaluating the WWA Administrator and voting in open session on retention of the Principal. It is felt that Mr. Matlick does an outstanding job and we are grateful for his service.

There was also a review of the budget and an update on the process of looking at ways to best maximize classroom space.

The next meeting will be held on April 8, 2014 at 7pm in the Spanish room. All WWA families are encouraged to attend at least one BOD meeting during the school year.

Prospective Parent Night
 I often have parents who ask me where my children go to school. If you have friends or family interested in Woodrow Wilson Academy, encourage them to attend a Prospective Parent Night. For more information contact Jean Rogers:  jrogers@wwacademy.org.

2013/2014 WWA BOD Meeting Schedule
Parents are encouraged to attend at least one Board of Director's meeting each school year.
The meetings take place on the second Tuesday of the month at 7 pm in the Spanish room.
This is a great way to learn more about the leadership at WWA.
